Obama vows aggressive campaign to create more jobs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama vowed on Thursday to lead a "sustained and accelerating" campaign over the next couple of months to increase the pace of job creation.

"America is moving forward again. The economy is growing, job losses have slowed to a trickle," he told Democratic lawmakers. But he added that for many Americans still without work, this recovery had not yet translated into better times.

Obama held a jobs forum at the White House early last month to brainstorm how to beat back unemployment that now stands at 10 percent, a 26-year high, following the worst recession since the Great Depression.

The House of Representatives passed a $155 billion jobs package in mid-December, on top of a $787 billion stimulus package Obama signed in February 2009, and the Senate is expected to pick up its version of fresh jobs legislation in coming weeks.
